Empowering Girls through STEM for Environmental Solutions: Lifelong Learning as a Catalyst for Sustainable Change
The EELL 2026 Conference convened policymakers, educators, researchers, students, development partners, civil society organizations, private sector leaders, and advocates from across Africa and beyond for two days of inspiring dialogue, learning, and collaboration focused on advancing gender equality and sustainable development.
Day 1 commenced with opening remarks and keynote presentations from distinguished leaders in education, environmental sustainability, gender advocacy, and public policy. The discussions highlighted the critical role of women and girls in addressing climate change, driving innovation, and leading sustainable development efforts across Africa. Engaging panel discussions explored topics such as girls’ access to quality education, women’s leadership in STEM, climate justice, inclusive policymaking, and strategies for breaking barriers that limit women’s participation in environmental decision making. Participants also shared innovative projects and successful initiatives that are empowering women and girls to become agents of change within their communities.
Day 2 built on these conversations through interactive workshops, research presentations, youth engagement sessions, and collaborative networking opportunities. Participants examined practical approaches to strengthening women’s economic empowerment, expanding access to green skills and technology, promoting climate resilient communities, and fostering partnerships that support inclusive and sustainable development. The conference concluded with a dynamic plenary session where delegates reaffirmed their commitment to advancing policies, partnerships, and community driven initiatives that empower women and girls to lead Africa’s sustainable future.
The EELL 2026 Conference successfully created a platform for meaningful knowledge exchange, cross sector collaboration, and innovative thinking. It strengthened networks among stakeholders, amplified the voices of women and young leaders, and inspired collective action toward building a more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable future for Africa.
